On 22th June 1633 the Italian mathematician and physicist Galileo Galilei was forced to „renounce“ his alleged false teachings, after over 20-year old argument with the Inquisition of the roman-catholic church.

The great scholar of the Renaissance had disproved the geocentric conception of the world of the ancient scholar PTOLEMÄUS which was defended by the church through the results of their own astronomical observations. That called the Inquisition on the plan, which found GALILEI guilty of HERESY. In order to defend its life, GALILEI had to renounce to his teachings:
„… to abandon completely … the opinion that the sun stands still at the center of the world and the earth moves, and henceforth not to hold, teach, or defend it in any way whatever, either orally or in writing.“The Inquisition’s injunction against Galileo (1616)

Centuries later, after the heliocentric conception of the world had become the generally accepted component of the knowledge of mankind, Galileo Galilei was rehabilitated by the Pope.
